Located just 10 km southwest of Nairobi's CBD, at the foot of the Ngong Hills, the Karen Blixen Museum offers a fascinating glimpse into Kenya’s colonial past and the life of one of its most renowned residents.
Karen Blixen—also known by her pen name Isak Dinesen—was a Danish author who moved to Kenya in the early 20th century. Together with her husband, Baron Bror von Blixen-Finecke, she established a coffee plantation on the grounds that now house the museum.
Her internationally acclaimed memoir, Out of Africa (1937), which recounts her life in Kenya, was later adapted into the Oscar-winning film starring Meryl Streep and Robert Redford.
Daily: 8:30 AM – 5:30 PM (including weekends and public holidays)
Whether you're a fan of history, literature, or film—or simply looking for a peaceful cultural stop—the Karen Blixen Museum is a memorable and enriching addition to your Nairobi itinerary.
