Tsavo West National Park

Tsavo West National Park, part of Kenya’s legendary Tsavo Conservation Area, is a breathtaking landscape of contrasts—rugged volcanic hills, sweeping savannahs, dense woodlands, and sparkling natural springs. Known for its dramatic scenery and rich wildlife, the park offers a more diverse and intimate safari experience compared to its sister park, Tsavo East.

Amazing Wildlife Encounters

Tsavo West hosts an impressive variety of wildlife thanks to its mixed habitats of grasslands, riverine thickets, and mountains. Animals you are likely to encounter include:

  • Elephants, especially the iconic “red elephants” dusted in Tsavo’s characteristic red soil
  • Lions, part of the historic Tsavo lion population
  • Buffaloes, giraffes, zebras, wildebeest
  • Cheetahs, leopards, and hyenas
  • A thriving population of black rhinos protected within the Ngulia Rhino Sanctuary
  • Over 400 bird species, including raptors, ostriches, and migratory birds

The park’s thick vegetation provides excellent cover for predators, making game drives exciting, unpredictable, and rewarding.
